All our dream-worlds may come true.
Fairy lands are fearsome too.

Leopoldo Alas
Unas veces hermoso y otras veces oscuro,

Pop
Sitting in his seat, a seat broad and broken
In, sprinkled with ashes,
Pop switches channels, takes another
Shot of Seagrams, neat, and asks
What to do with me, a green young man
Who fails to consider the
Flim and flam of the world, since
Things have been easy for me;
I stare hard at his face, a stare
That deflects off his brow;
I’m sure he’s unaware of his
Dark, watery eyes, that
Glance in different directions,
And his slow, unwelcome twitches,
Fail to pass.
I listen, nod,
Listen, open, till I cling to his pale,
Beige T-shirt, yelling,
Yelling in his ears, that hang
With heavy lobes, but he’s still telling
His joke, so I ask why
He’s so unhappy, to which he replies...
But I don’t care anymore, cause
He took too damn long, and from
Under my seat, I pull out the
Mirror I’ve been saving; I’m laughing,
Laughing loud, the blood rushing from his face
To mine, as he grows small,
A spot in my brain, something
That may be squeezed out, like a
Watermelon seed between
Two fingers.
Pop takes another shot, neat,
Points out the same amber
Stain on his shorts that I’ve got on mine, and
Makes me smell his smell, coming
From me; he switches channels, recites an old poem
He wrote before his mother died,
Stands, shouts, and asks
For a hug, as I shink, my
Arms barely reaching around
His thick, oily neck, and his broad back; ‘cause
I see my face, framed within
Pop’s black-framed glasses
And know he’s laughing too.

Oh no tan pronto hagas

The child is father to the man
'The child is father to the man.'
How can he be? The words are wild.
Suck any sense from that who can:
'The child is father to the man.'
No; what the poet did write ran,
'The man is father to the child.'
'The child is father to the man!'
How can he be? The words are wild!
Gerard Manley Hopkins S.J.

Pedro Garfias
Cuando me tiro de noche
Cuando me tiro de noche
en el ataúd del lecho
que es menos duro que el otro
porque ya sabe mis huesos,
me pongo a mirar arriba
los astros de mis recuerdos.
Aquél que se abrió de pronto
cuando todo era misterio.
El otro que se apagó
antes de sentirse abierto.
A veces grito iracundo:
aquí me falta un lucero,
aquí me sobra una estrella.
¿Quién hizo este firmamento?
Una voz piadosa dice
que no es cielo sino techo.
—Por mi vida, grito yo,
dejadme saber mi sueño.
Donde yo pongo los ojos
todo es cielo—.
Pedro Garfias Zurita (Salamanca, España, 1901 – Monterrey, México, 1967). Poeta.

Warning
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

El sol se había caído
El sol se había caído
con las alas rotas
sobre un Poniente.
Tus ojos se llenaron de crepúsculos pálidos.
Vino el vacío eterno de tu presencia
y todas mis horas se llenaron
de distancias.
Tus lágrimas se deslizan
por la pendiente de un recuerdo.
El rosario de tus besos
de tus huellas
aguarda tus pasos.
Vuelve.
Acaso en tu ventana
un verso mío se desangra.

A Grain Of Sand
If starry space no limit knows
And sun succeeds to sun,
There is no reason to suppose
Our earth the only one.
'Mid countless constellations cast
A million worlds may be,
With each a God to bless or blast
And steer to destiny.
Just think! A million gods or so
To guide each vital stream,
With over all to boss the show
A Deity supreme.
Such magnitudes oppress my mind;
From cosmic space it swings;
So ultimately glad to find
Relief in little things.
For look! Within my hollow hand,
While round the earth careens,
I hold a single grain of sand
And wonder what it means.
Ah! If I had the eyes to see,
And brain to understand,
I think Life's mystery might be
Solved in this grain of sand.

"EL CUERVO”: Variación en Clave Menor
Lejos del tiempo, lejos,
érase una vez
Un demonio alado, un cuervo, o un demonio
frente a algún desconocido

formidables, siniestras, locas ilustraciones

Let me die a youngman's death
Let me die a youngman's death
not a clean and inbetween
the sheets holywater death
not a famous-last-words
peaceful out of breath death
When I'm 73
and in constant good tumour
may I be mown down at dawn
by a bright red sports car
on my way home
from an allnight party
Or when I'm 91
with silver hair
and sitting in a barber's chair
may rival gangsters
with hamfisted tommyguns burst in
and give me a short back and insides
Or when I'm 104
and banned from the Cavern
may my mistress
catching me in bed with her daughter
and fearing for her son
cut me up into little pieces
and throw away every piece but one
Let me die a youngman's death
not a free from sin tiptoe in
candle wax and waning death
not a curtains drawn by angels borne
'what a nice way to go' death

Pels passadissos freds ets l’Ecce Homo
més encès i pletòric. I cada esclat d’eufòria,
on sols t’espera, anònim, un senyal

Pels passadissos freds ets l’Ecce Homo
més encès i pletòric. I cada esclat d’eufòria,
