Debe usted saberlo
yo nací lejos del umbral
desconozco, así, su gesto
el canto sereno
con el que otros hablan
las grandes palabras
que a una se le ahuecan
como pájaros mojados
en la boca
durante años he visto hombres

Golden Oldie
I made it home early, only to get
Stalled in the driveway, swaying
At the wheel like a blind pianist caught in a tune
Meant for more than two hands playing.
The words were easy, crooned
by a young girl dying to feel alive, to discover
A pain majestic enough
To live by. I turned the air-conditioning off,
Leaned back to float on a film of sweat,
And listened to the sentiment:
Baby, where did our love go?--a lament
I greedily took in
Without a clue who my lover
Might be, or where to start looking.

Έλα.

Truncated Elegy
Before going under he did notice how the sky grew
thick with the wings of birds or taste the rust of lungs the ache
We wait by the delta for a drunken boy to return
leaving our doors unlocked in case his longing exceeds us
To have shifted abandon into something tangible--
a manna to prevail against cognition's undertow
Flower in his teeth love sung to his own end and the dark
he drifted through like the moon burning up a merlot sky

Entresuelo
nidos durmiendo bajo tibias palomas.
Aquí, no hay mujer. Me falta.
Desamparada sangre, noche blanda,
tabaco del insomnio, triste cama.
Yo me voy a otra parte.
Y me llevo mi mano, que tanto escribe y habla.

Felice Mastroianni
Ho misurato gli anni
da Lucciole sul granturco
Qui ho imparato gli odori
tutti delle stagioni
e il linguaggio vellutato dei merli.
Ho spiato le tane
delle serpi e dei gufi
e ruzzolo a valle col riccio.
S'aprirono i miei occhi
su una verde vallata
ove scorre un torrente
e scendono fiori
a ciottoli ambrati
